How To Prevent The Stuck Mash

How To Prevent The Stuck Mash

Many brewers are worried about a stuck mash because it will probably change the flavor of the final beer. Then, how to prevent a stuck mash? Follow the tips as below and you will be not annoyed about any stuck mash.

1.Keep Your Brewing Equipment Clean

Make sure to clean your brewing equipment with hot water before the boil. The heat loosens the sticky sugars hanging around and removes anything that might influence the beer or create clogs.

2.Maintain Your Brewing Equipment
As we know, the wort collection manifold for the lauter tun is one of the fickle pieces of your brewing system, so as the sparger. Before brewing, you need to make sure that the spigots that control the sparger and wort collection manifold are working properly, that water flows easily through the system and that there are no leaks anywhere.

3.Don’t Crush Your Grain Too Small
Be careful about how small you crush them. Try to do no more than to break each grain in half. Over crushing of your grain will make a big problem for the wort lautering. The too small grain will creat a mash clogging dough in your grain bed.

4.Drain and Sparge Slowly
The slow drain and sparge is to keep from disturbing the grain bed. Anything more than gentle drips will cause the bed to start to collapse and the bed collapses will cause a stuck mash. So, never stir the grain bed after conversion.

The best cure is prevention. So, by following the simple guidelines, the stuck mash will not cost your time or make your brewing messy.
