How to get smooth wort filtration during mashing process?
Wort separation from mash liquid is very important step for beer brewing. Clear and proper speed filtration will greatly improve quality of beer.
 
Guys, let’s see what methods could help us lauter together.
 
1. Malted crushed
Before milling, We prefer to add less water into the malt(normally 1kg water/100kg barley malt), that can leave the malt husk intact.
An intact husk helps wort separation and may reduce extraction of tannin and other undesirable components.
 

2. Lauter diameter
As we know, 35~40cm grain grist bed thickness is best for wort filtration. Please free let me know your grain feeding amount and volume of your lauter tun.  Proper diameter will be kindly told you.
 

3. Strong raker
Rake could help us make water and grain mix better to improve yielding of sugar. But high speed rotating of raker will produce bad shear force for malt husk. So we equip two kinds of different shape rakes to slowly stirred mash liquid when wort lautering. At the same moment, we also equip a very important control part for controlling rake speed, it’s called VFD controller.
 

4. Wort collection device
For better smooth filtration of wort, I equip a flat bottom mash /lauter tun for you , that has a wort outlets TC with extended collection rings.
There are 4~8 wort collecting ports evenly distributed in the bottom. It will be very helpful for wort outlet.
 

5. Grant
We have a not bad design called grant, that is equipped between mash tun and wort heat exchager. Both gravity filtration and pump auotomatic filtration(level control) can be approached.
