How Many Fermenters Does My Brewpub Need?

The fermentation tanks can vary in size and shape. Technically, it’s whatever the container used to turn a wort into beer.

Fermentation takes place when yeast is combined with a cooled wort. It’s the yeast that converts the sugars present to alcohol and carbon dioxide, giving a brew it’s alcohol content, some of its flavour and carbonation.

The temperature of the fermenter is maintained at varies, colder for lagers for example, which is why purpose built fermentation tanks are so important to larger scale breweries.

It takes at least two weeks for the wort to ferment, so breweries are limited in their output as to how much tank space they have.

The number of the fermentation tanks depends on the daily output of your brewery. If you don’t have the right number of storage units, then a large brewhouse capacity is useless. The number of storage units determines the output of your brewery.

Most craft beer takes 3-4 weeks to mature, so you need to buy a suitable number of beer fermentation tanks according to your daily output.
