In a brewery, the control system is like the heart and plays a vital role. Almost every part of a brewery needs to be controlled. Today I am very happy to discuss the control of brewhouse and fermenter by PID in the brewery.


 
For the brewhouse(taking electric heating as an example):
For example we set 131F via the temperature meter on the control panel.
The temperature probe measures the temperature inside the kettle and display the temperature on the control panel.
When the measured temperature is below 131F, the electric heating elements start to heat the tank. When the measure temperature reached 131F, the electric heating elements stop the heating. In this way, the temperature is always maintained around 131F.
If we want to increase the temperature in the kettle, we will need to set the next temperature (for example 149F) via the temperature meter on the control panel.
 
Fermentation temperature control:
To control the temperature of the fermentation tanks, the control panel need to control the chiller, glycol water tank, glycol pump and glycol solenoid valves.
We set for example 23F for the glycol water tank, the same as the brewhouse, the chillers will maintain the glycol temperature around 23F.
We set for example 23F for a fermentation tank, when the temperature probe measures the temperature is over 23F, the control panel will command to open the solenoid valve  and glycol pump to let the glycol go into the cooling jacket.
When the temperature reached 23F,the solenoid valve closed automatically. And the same, we can also set individual temperatures for other fermenters and brite tanks.
