Brewery equipment is made of steel, a material that can be polished to a high gloss. This polishing process is known as mechanical polishing and gives brewery equipment an attractive appearance and makes it more durable. The reason brewery equipment is polished is to keep it clean and hygienic. Polished stainless steel helps prevent the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms from adhering to the surfaces of kegs, tanks, pipes, etc.
If you work in the beer industry, you will know the importance of food hygiene. It is a requirement of the law and the health authorities. There are several different levels of food hygiene standards that need to be met. It affects not only the safety of your customers, but also their perception of your brand.
To polish a surface, you need to know its true colour. When the oxide layer is removed from steel, it exposes the pure metal underneath. This can be used to determine if your equipment is rusting or if there are any contaminants in your beer production process. Polishing also removes any dirt or oil that may have built up on the components during the use of the equipment, which could affect the taste of the drink you drink later!
The polishing process for producing beer equipment
1. Weld stainless steel plate joints to form the base of the cylinder and cone.
2. Welding the pit plate to the bottom of the cylinder and cone.
3. Polishing the inside of the cylinder. Firstly, the workers polish by hand to remove some of the visible weld slag. Next, further polishing is carried out using specialist machines equipped with different abrasive belts.
Polishing of the inside of the conical base. Same as the cylinder. The top of the polishing disc. Same as for the cylinder and conical base.
4. Assemble and weld together the top, cylinder and bottom.
