The yield of a beer brewing depends on the type and size of the brewing equipment, how much beer is brewed, the size and number of fermentation tanks and the fermentation period of the beer are all influencing factors that need to be taken into account.
One thing that needs to be considered when calculating the annual production of a brewery is the storage time. How long does the beer have to be stored in the tanks before it is ready for packaging? If you are brewing a lager, it may sit in the tank for 4-6 weeks before it is ready. The longer your beer sits in the tank, the less beer you will be able to brew.
The best way to estimate the size of your brewery and cellar configuration is to calculate your beer production for the year, as this will give you a better estimate of the number of fermenters you will need.
How much beer do you plan to brew per year? How many beers do you plan to sell per month or per week once your brewery is established and expanded? These are the main questions we ask first when approaching customers.
There are many types of tanks you can have in the brewing process:
- Fermentation tanks
- Brite beer tanks
- Horizontal maturation tanks
- Serving tanks
The design of the brewery also affects the amount of beer that can be brewed on site. More brewing vessels means you can produce more beer in a day. In a 2 vessel system it might be possible to brew 2 times, but that would be a long day. Some breweries have 5 or 6 vessel systems and can brew more than 6 times a day. When it comes to brewing, it is not the number of cellars that limits the output of a brewery, but the design of the brewery.
