How much glycol should be needed for the glycol water tank in my brewery?

One of the common concerns we hear from our valued customers is related to glycol consumption, particularly when the glycol water tank is sizeable and glycol costs are a concern. We understand the importance of this issue and would like to share some information on it.

At Tiantai, we take pride in our commitment to providing efficient and cost-effective solutions to our customers. To address the worry about glycol consumption, we have adopted a standard configuration that includes a glycol water tank that is 2-3 times larger than the traditional setup, coupled with our second-generation chiller for the cooling system. As an example, with a 1000L beer brewing system, we usually equip a 2000L glycol water tank. Naturally, some customers may wonder how much glycol will be needed.

Glycol water consists of glycol and city water. We usually recommend that the glycol content is 30%-40% and the city water content is 60%-70%. This means that for a 1000L system, equipped with 2000L glycol water tank, you would need 600L to 800L of glycol to ensure the cooling system operates efficiently. While the specific ratio might vary slightly based on local environmental factors, the overall consumption remains quite stable.

Moreover, our glycol water tanks are designed to be well-sealed, ensuring that the glycol does not evaporate. This allows for the recirculation and reuse of the glycol water for many years. In the long run, only minimal supplementation is needed, with significant savings in glycol costs.
