Is A Hot Liquor Tank Necessary For The Micro Brewery System?

Before making the final decision of the beer brewing system, we found that some buyers may be a little hesitated about whether the hot liquor tank is necessary for the brewing system. So, here we would like to give some advice about it.

Firstly, let’s give a list about what a hot liquor tank could do for the brewing system.
1.To offer the sufficient mash water before the mashing is launched.
2.To offer the hot water when sparging is required.
3.To offer the hot water for cleaning of the brewery tanks.
4.To recycle the warm water from the heat exchanger when the heat exchanging is completed between the tap water and the hot wort.

In this way, we could know that a hot liquor tank plays a very important role in the brewing process. It makes great sense especially for the two vessels brewhouse (MLT+ KWT), three vessels brewhouse (MT+LT+KWT) and four vessels brewhouse (MT+LT+KT+WT).

However, if the budget is limited, the buyer might go for the combined three vessels brewhouse (ML/WT+KT or MKT+L/WT). As the kettle tun or the mash kettle tun in this combined brewhouse could be used as the hot liquor tank to offer the hot water for mashing or sparging or even for cleaning, the hot liquor tank seems not that important.

In conclusion, it mainly depends on the buyer’s budget and the required configuration of the brewhouse. It is no doubt that a hot liquor tank could offer a much more efficient way for the whole brewing process.
