What brewing equipment is needed to make gin?

With the popularity of craft beer all over the world, along with the establishment of many breweries, more and more distilleries have slowly begun to appear. So what equipment should we consider when we want to build a distillery? Since the brewing process of different spirits is different, please allow me to take gin as an example today to discuss the equipment needed to make gin.

Usually making gin requires the following equipment:

Fermenter

Because gin is a fermented and distilled liquor. During the production process, juniper berries, water and other raw materials are mixed together, placed in a fermenter, and yeast and other starters are added for fermentation.
During fermentation, yeast breaks down sugars and other organic matter in the mixture, producing carbon dioxide and alcohol. This process takes time, usually days or weeks. Through fermentation, the sugars in the mixture are converted into alcohol, which is the basis for making gin.
The fermenter can also maintain the temperature and humidity of the mixture, and prevent the contamination of external air and bacteria, which is conducive to the fermentation process. After fermentation is complete, the mixture is distilled, producing a high concentration of alcohol.

Glycol Cooling System

Glycol cooling system are often necessary when making gin. This is because during the process of making gin, the fermenters need to be cooled to control the fermentation temperature, and during the distillation process, the vapors need to be cooled to convert them into liquid alcohol.

Distiller

The still plays a vital role in making gin as it allows the alcohol to be separated from the other liquids. During gin making, juniper berries and other herbs and spices are added to the alcohol, which is then distilled using a still.
The working principle of the distiller is to use the different boiling points of different substances to heat the liquid above its boiling point, collect and cool the generated steam, and condense the steam into a liquid. In gin making, a still separates the alcohol from the juniper berries, herbs and other flavorings, which are then distilled and collected in another vessel. This allows brewer to control the level of alcohol in the gin, thereby adjusting the taste and quality of the drink.

Commercial complete brewing equipment usually also includes batching and mixing equipment, metering equipment, piping and pumps, etc. In addition, sanitation facilities, safety equipment and environmental protection equipment also need to be considered to ensure the safety and sanitation of the wine making process.
