What should be noticed when you use a plate heat exchanger

The following questions should be noted when using a plate heat exchanger for wort cooling:

1. Before the wort is cooled, the wort side of the plate heat exchanger and the wort pipe shall be sterilized by hot water above 80 °C, for a period of not less than 30 min. After the cooling starts, after the remaining water is exhausted by wort, the wort can be then filled into the yeast addition tanks or fermenters.

2. During the wort cooling process, actively check the temperatures of inlet and outlet of wort and cooling medium. Adjust the flow rate through the valve to control the outlet temperature of the wort. At the end of the wort cooling, wort remaining in equipment and the pipeline should be drained by hot water.

3. The wort cooling time is preferably within 60 min. Excessive cooling time will affect the utilization of whirlpool tun and wort quality.

4. It is necessary to take apart and clean the plates of the heat exchanger regularly.
Because the cold break and hop resin in the wort will attach to the plate, it will affect the heat transfer efficiency.

5.The maximum working pressure of the plate heat exchanger is generally 1 MPa. Pressure difference will occur on the cooling medium side and the wort side of the heat exchanger. The normal working pressure is 0.2-0.4 MPa. Excessive pressure difference will deform the plate and reduce the sealing performance of the gasket.
